2024: A Year of Growth

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Hello relatives, IP3 network, partners and supporters. As we begin 2025, we reflect on a challenging yet productive year of work in solidarity with our communities, and are grateful for another year of growth as a network and organization. While the year came with many challenges, witnessing traumas in our communities here and on Indigenous Peoples around the globe, we are reminded of the urgency for ceremony and healing, and taking care of ourselves and loved ones. Through it all, IP3 has been blessed with the opportunity to learn and grow as an organization, and are working hard to make space for those looking to connect or reconnect with our traditions, cultures, the land and each other. The following are a collection of what we’ve been up to in 2024.

IP3 Land Acquisition & Farm Cleanup

After acquiring our 4.7 acre farmland property in Chinook Territory, so-called Portland, Oregon in December of 2023, IP3 took possession of the property in January of 2024 and were met with an unfortunate disaster. After the city declaring a winter weather emergency on January 12th of 2024, a combination of high winds, freezing rain, sleet and snow brought down trees all over the region including two large Douglas Fir trees on the property, destroying the house, our future office space, and barn, our future training space. With the help of our staff, friends and network of community volunteers, IP3 quickly went to work clearing the trees and preparing the land for the first phase of our Landback Project. Working with contractors and arborists we were able to clear the trees and debris, making sure that the remaining old growth were safe enough to move onto the property to continue our restoration. In the last year, we welcomed 3 baby sheep, renovated a small detached building into a conference room and meeting space, started the IP3 Artist in Residency program and have laid a good foundation to welcome community for years to come. For more information on the IP3 Landback Project and to help in our restoration efforts, please visit us at www.ip3action.org/landbackproject.

With featured guests Annelia Hillman, Gunny, Lady Shug, Solange Aguilar, Beverly Little Thunder, Averian Chee, and Enei Begaye, Skoden Talks With The homies is a powerful and casual conversation with activists, artists, entertainers, and community organizers working to uplift and empower communities across Turtle Island. Through this platform, we highlight the ongoing work of Indigenous communities in such areas of climate justice, restorative justice, gender visibility, political organizing, media representation, and cultural livelihood. Good Relative Memorial Garden

In late April of 2024, IP3 staff and a group of amazing community volunteers came together for Mother Earth Day on the farm to plant the Dic Sa’a Maqs Geeladat (Good Relative Memorial Garden). From the first plant to an entire garden, we are so thankful to have spent time with family and community, and for those who came to share the day with us. It is such a blessing to see next generation IP3 and those who’ve been around awhile sharing and learning together. The playlist reminded us of where we’ve all been and new life to come. There is so much goodness here, and we look forward to building and growing with you all for generations to come.

The Farm at Coyote Crossing

In September of 2024, Indigenous Peoples Power Project officially announced The Farm at Coyote Crossing along with new programming including Intergenerational Training, Healing & Wellness, and Food & Land Sovereignty inline with our organizational mission. In the coming years, The Farm at Coyote Crossing will be a place to learn, grow, heal, and for community to share and connect with diverse traditions and ceremony from across Turtle Island. Early this year (2025) and with a focus on Traditional Ecological Knowledge, we are contracting with a local botanist to begin our conservation project, which includes a complete plant species survey, iNaturalist community biodiversity project, and zoning of the farm to support conservation efforts of other local land managers near the Johnson Creek Watershed in Chinook Territory, Porland, OR. Looking Forward in 2025

In 2025 and beyond, we know our sacred land and water need us now more than ever. While we anticipate great changes to the environment and in our communities in the coming years, it is imperative that we remain connected, healthy, and prayerful that we can and will rise to action in a good way; that we will protect our people, our way of life, and our planet for generations to come. Indigenous Peoples Power Project, our staff, network, and board of directors remain committed to this cause, and in making space for those on the frontlines, and the next generations of land and water protectors. Sincerest of gratitude to our sponsors, community partners and network for your continued support, and as always, many blessings to you and your families, your communities, and for the work you do. We look forward to connecting with you all in 2025.

In Solidarity,
