What is Nonviolent Direct Action (NVDA)?

Nonviolent Direct Action is the use of strategy, tactics, and techniques that influence social change, and can include protest, noncooperation, and intervention. These general sessions will introduce roles, tactics, points of intervention and more. You are able to choose one of the tracks below to dive deep into that particular skillset and how it contributes to our movements. We invite you to experience IP3 Action Camp for you and your network, and prepare yourselves to protect our land, air, water and future generations.

Climbing

The Climbing Track will cover safety, techniques, equipment, procedures, and best practices by climbers globally. Rope access principles, mechanical devices, and other climbing methods will be introduced. The concepts shared in this track can be adopted and used by all those who integrate climbing, protest, and resistance.

Blockades

The Blockades Track introduces essential skills for occupying space, using technical tools and our own bodies with a focus on developing skills that will be useful in their broader activist communities. The skills learned here can be taken to the streets or rural communities alike in a way that informs participants of safety and their rights.

Creative Resistance

The Creative Resistance Track is for those interested in learning how to make and use banners, screen prints, spray paint, performance intervention, 3D/cardboard and a variety of other creative tools to produce effective images and messaging for use in direct action, street theater, marches, protests, concerts and more. Here we will discuss the importance of art in our movement spaces and how it amplifies our storytelling.

Kayaktivism

The Kayak Track is where you’ll learn about the intersections of taking action and being on the water. Whether its a river, a lake, a watershed, this track will teach participants about how to operate a kayak, gear, water safety, and different strategies of how to be effective on the water. IP3 is proud to introduce Kayak Track as it’s, dare we say, the first of its kind and coming at an important time as we are seeing a beautiful revitalization of water traditions and culture. We are excited to offer this skill as we see folks continue to defend their home waters and water everywhere.
